Tuffnut was a bit surprised at how hard the boy could punch, while it wasn't as hard as Astrid's or Snotlout's. It was hard to believe that. But it did hit, "okay that was better." he replied wincing as he rubbed his shoulder. "Just focus on not holding back," he replied. "Anything else you would like to add Astrid."

Astrid shrugged, arching her back against the tree, pushing off to stand. Not missing a beat, she walked towards the two boys, circling them once. Hiccup had a pitiful punch, that much she observed. Much like her trying to slap a dragon. No effect, no mark, and he would most likely get hurt. Turning her head to smile tauntingly at Tuffnut.
"The master can't find anything wrong with it?" she chided, her hand going for Hiccup's arm. "Here, Hiccup, that was pitiful. Worse than pitiful." She let go, getting into her own stance. Her elbow cocked back, slightly raised, a fist already formed. Her other arm was braced infront of her chest. Her strongest leg behind her. Her hips were angled,so the they faced Hiccup, her torso slightly tilted towards Tuffnut.
"You put your force in your hips, sure punch hard, you need some upper body strength," she demonstrated a bit, not throwing a punch, but twisting her hips to gather momentum. Her skirt making taps and clacks as the metal hit metal. "And when you punch, throw forward." Now she fully demonstrated, her hips twisting towards Tuffnut, her fist flying. so that it landed at a stop before Tuffnut's chest.
"See? Or would you like another demonstration? Tuffnut, want to be the dummy?" she smirked, rolling the last word in her mouth before letting it out, the hidden meaning not so hidden. She'd hoped she showed Hiccup something or other, she wasn't normally the teacher, more of the student. She put her hands on her hips, rocking back on her heels observe. Hopefully Hiccup wasn't to incompetent that he wouldn't be able to throw another punch without tripping or something.

Having done nothing different from what he had done the first time, Hiccup was surprised by Tuffnut's evaluation of his second punch. In his humble opinion, it had probably been more pitiful than the first. Maybe. Hiccup really didn't know just how pitiful it was. He opened his mouth partway, preparing to make some kind of argument about how he really hadn't done anything different, but he closed it as soon as Astrid gripped his arm. Hiccup didn't have anything to say in his defense when Astrid remarked on just how pitiful it really had been. He had almost been anticipating that.
Hiccup gave a meek little nod and kept his eyes on Astrid as she prepared to demonstrate. If anything, he felt like he would learn something more from her than Tuffnut. Clearly the male blond was too full of himself to realize just how poorly he was doing as a teacher by really not instructing all that much. But Hiccup would never admit that fact out loud. Not only would it be detrimental to his health to do so, but Astrid had a better way with stating that sort of thing than he did. Of course Hiccup could be blunt when he wanted to be. This was just one of those rare times when he chose to not say anything.
He had to cringe just a bit when Astrid's fist met Tuffnut's chest. That had to have hurt. He would be surprised if it didn't. Through watching how she had positioned herself and how she moved, Hiccup did feel he had a better understanding of what he was supposed to do if he ever had to try punching something again. "I think so. Though if you think you need to, you can go ahead and do it again." Hiccup chuckled. That remark would probably earn him some kind of response from Tuffnut, likely of the physical nature, but he had to admit that it was funny. Hiccup couldn't simply let the chance to see Tuffnut get punched by Astrid of all Vikings go away so quickly.

Tuffnut shook his head. "Thanks but i think you beat me up quite a bit today don't you think?" he asked. if anything they needed someone other than him to be a dummy. Snoutlout or Fishlegs, or even his sister. "I am going to have to pass on that one though but thanks for asking."

Astrid shrugged taking a step back. "No problem, I'm just mannerly like that." she smirked, she'd already had her fun pummeling Tuffnut earlier, no need to return him to his parents bleeding and bruised. The blonde gesture for Hiccup to take her place. "Tuffnut, your still dummy, Hiccup needs to practice, master," Her voice twisted into a sneer. She hoped Hiccup had picked up a thing or two from the punch, it would make her day to see the scrawny thing leave a bruise on the blonde boy.
Plopping down on the ground by them, she wrapped her arms around her knees, the spiked part of the skirt falling to her sides, the normal-ish one revealed. Icy orbs watched the two boys, intrigued to see what the outcome might be.
After all Hiccup was scrawny and Tuffnut was arrogant, which made him careless. Both seemed to have an even advantage depending on how they moved and what the first blow might be. Astrid turned her head slightly, looking at the lake water. The greenish color fading into a deep blue the farther out it got, meeting the blue horizon of the sky. Both seemed to continue on forever, where one started, one ended but it was impossible to tell which was which. She blinked turning her head back to the guys and the trees surrounding them.

Following the silent cue, Hiccup took Astrid's place in front of Tuffnut. "Ya know, I was being sarcastic with the whole 'master' thing." he remarked. He thought his tone had made that fairly obvious, but there was no harm in making it clear. Back to business, Hiccup tried to mimic the position that Astrid had been in just moments before. After a few moments of shuffling and wiggling, trying to find the right position, Hiccup felt comfortable. This time he'd put more weight on his left side, feeling more comfortable with that side since he was left-handed. It was safe to say that he felt a bit more comfortable this time around.
Hiccup was trying his hardest not to start trembling like an idiot. He felt as though he was facing that Nightmare again, only it was a lot stupider and perhaps just a bit uglier. Perhaps. Hiccup really couldn't tell whether or not Tuffnut would win an ugly contest, nor would he be so bold as to remark on that matter out loud. Okay... okay, you can do this, Hiccup. You're a Viking. You are a Viking! he told himself.
In the same fashion that Astrid had done before, Hiccup twisted his hips to gain just a bit of momentum before loosing his third attempted punch of that morning. He screwed his eyes shut, almost afraid to look at whatever was about to happen, and at last he untwisted himself and punched. This time, he subconsciously went for Tuffnut's face. Hiccup definitely felt that this particular punch was more potent than the last two attempts. Perhaps, though, that had been a mistake. But it was too late to take it back. He'd already loosed it. Hiccup would just have to suffer whatever followed his punch.
"...Did I hit him?" Hiccup asked stupidly. He swore he had felt his fist make contact with something, but he refused to open his eyes to see just what he had hit. Twiggy little Hiccup was definitely not a fighter... not without provocation or the suggestion of actually trying to punch something for once in his life.

Oh sure, he always ended up being the dummy. After a quick glare at Astrid, the boy was surprised when Hiccup hit him. "Lucky shot." he muttered. Though he was more surprised that the red head had actually taken Astrid's advice. Maybe there was hope for the scrawny kid yet

Slowly, cautiously, Hiccup opened one eye. Then the other. Tuffnut may not have directly complimented him, but he hadn't blown up at the fact that he had succeeded either. That, in Hiccup's mind, was progress. It took a few moments to register, but at length the fact that his fist had indeed made contact with Tuffnut's face sunk in. He'd done it. He'd really done it! Joyfully, Hiccup moved his hand back and did a little celebratory dance. "I did it! I did it! Astrid, did you see that?" Hiccup asked gleefully. Of course he realized he was acting like a complete doofus, celebrating over nothing, but did he particularly care? Not in the least. He had succeeded at something for once. That in and of itself was worth celebrating. Oh, if only Stoick could have seen it!
"Ha... wait until Snotlout gets a load of me. He'll think twice before messing with me, let me tell you." Hiccup stated with a semi-smug, doofy grin. One punch obviously didn't mean he was invincible. In the back of his mind Hiccup acknowledged this fact. However, the satisfied part of himself wanted him to have his moment. So he didn't acknowledge the sensible part of his brain for once.

Astrid couldn't resist the temptation to laugh. Tuffnut's shocked expression, and Hiccup's insistence to act like a child were quite funny. The familiar doofy grin that could only be placed on Hiccup's face showed, and Astrid rolled onto her back as Hiccup started a celebratory dance. His voice sounded like a child who had just picked up a hammer for the first time and bopped a piece of wood into place, screaming to tell his mother of success.
The punch was quite good on Hiccup's part, he learned fast, something that was needed in Berk. It appeared that Hiccup's sluggish responses in the arena, might have just been because... he was Hiccup. Always lost in another world when he should be focusing on not tripping over his own feet. Astrid rolled her eyes at the red-head. He'd need a lot more than the ability to punch to face the broad teen. But for the moment, Astrid thought it was entertaining to see Hiccup with a confidence boost. It was something not usually seen, and she doubted Hiccup would ever challenge the black haired teen to a fight with only the power of two fist to defend him from Snotlout's meaty paws.
"Oh yeah, Hiccup, Snotlout would go running from your might." she teased, holding her stomach, and rolling back into a sitting position, eyes glittering slightly. A large difference from the flaming or frozen state they normally stayed in. It was odd to have the two boys as company, she'd never expected to have such a good time with the two doofuses. She let her eyes wander between them. Both were skinny in frame, one's face was plastered in a stunned expression, the other smug, and for lack of a better word, doofy. The red-head seemed to be glowing with excitement. It was sad in a happy way. It was sad because, it went to show, Hiccup could never have defended himself(not like anyone thought he could before). The happy part was that Hiccup was excited over the fact that he was now able to throw what would pass as a nice punch. The scrawny teen probably didn't have much muscle to go with the punch, but Astrid new from experience, a punch could still hurt as long as it had the appropriate force in it.

"Oh yeah. Old snotfaced Snotlout will have to think twice before looking at me the wrong way again. There will be consequences!" now it was just getting silly. Riding on the high of success for once in his life, Hiccup felt as though he was walking on air. He could do anything! ...Well, almost anything. Flying was still right out. He was brought back to earth when he almost tripped over himself, causing him to stumble just a bit before catching himself and holding his arms out to keep from falling over for the third time that day. With a slight laugh, Hiccup put one hand behind his head and sheepishly rubbed his neck. He must have looked like a complete doofus just then, he realized, but in the moment of things he hadn't really cared. It had been worth it just knowing that he had succeeded.
"...I mean, you know, assuming Snotlout actually bothers to look at me... any wrong way." Hiccup finally said, coming to realize just how stupid he must have sounded thinking he could take on Snotlout with just one punching technique. He'd be pounded into putty before he even got a single punch in if he took on the brute of a Viking. "But I think we all know that's about as likely to happen as Gobber actually teaching us something. That is to say, not very likely at all." Hiccup laughed. "...Me taking on Snotlout, I mean. That just won't happen." he said to clear up what he had said before.
Since nothing else seemed to be going on in the means of any sort of lesson, Hiccup moved just a tiny bit closer to where Astrid was and plopped down on the ground. Now why couldn't things be like they were in that moment all of the time? It would make things so much easier on him. But, Hiccup knew nothing lasted forever. The chances of all of Berk suddenly deciding to stop treating him like he was the misfit that nobody liked, which he really was upon thinking about it, were rather slim. Hiccup kept his face from relaxed, though. There was no reason to let it be known that he was silently putting himself down again. Besides, it wasn't so bad. He did feel a lot better about things, if he were to admit that much out loud, and was a lot more relaxed than he had been earlier.

Astrid couldn't help but have a laugh accompany her eye roll. Hiccup was giddy in the excitement of having thrown what could be defined as a punch, not something usual for the scrawny teen. It was amusing to see the scrawny red head enjoying himself, normally he was sarcastic, or getting beaten up by her, Snotlout, Tuffnut, or dragons. She continued to hug her knees to her chest, leaning back slightly on the ground, watching the two boys and watching for Tuffnut's reaction, to Hiccup's.
"Of course Snotlout'll pay attention to you, your competition remember?" she gave a teasing wink to the scrawny boy, and only shrugged when he curbed to the side from his high. "Better for you I guess." she waved his words off nonchalantly. She didn't want to hurt Hiccup from his high, but didn't want him to actually go out and seek a fight from Snotlout. The burly boy would surely pummel the boy to an embarrassed, bloody pulp. She sighed, exhaling tension, relaxing the muscles that had tensed watching Hiccup throw a punch. It was a natural reflex- to get ready for a fight.
Astrid watched as Hiccup approached closer, following the motion, but making no attempt to move away. It seemed like a nice, calm time. Away from Berk and having no reason to bully the scrawny teen or Tuffnut. It was Astrid's first time this week to relax for such a long period of time. Between the dragon attacks, and the training, Astrid never really had relaxing time, or time to herself. It was an oddly enjoyable feeling, exercising her body in a more natural, relaxing way. Climbing trees, running, and goofing around for the fun of it. Not to survive another day against a dragon. Enjoyable, and though she continued to use her built up muscles and skills, it was more relaxing more.... natural. She'd have to remind herself to do this again some time, though she honestly didn't believe she would.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,520,true][bg=212c2f]Yeah, competition. At least until he figures out that I'm a fraud.
It was unlikely Snotlout would figure out Hiccup's supposed rouse. Astrid and Tuffnut had only figured it out because they asked. Snotlout was too stupid to figure that out, much less consider asking a question that didn't involve asking something in regards to being beaten up. Hiccup was glad that much was true. He didn't want to have to deal with an intelligent Snotlout. That would be too much to handle. The last thing Hiccup wanted to do was deal with Snotlout figuring out his secret. If anything, that would lead to Stoick finding out. That would just cause problems.
As he sat there, letting everything sink in, Hiccup did consider saying something else. Anything else, really. Instead, he kept his mouth shut. Hiccup didn't particularly feel like disturbing the peace that had finally fallen after those couple of tense, if not silly, moments. Very rarely did a moment of peace come to Berk, especially with the threat of dragons always on the horizon. It was a moment to be treasured. ...And to think it had come from such a simple start to the day. Hiccup had just wanted to be alone, but had found company in two of the teens that typically avoided him and mocked him. "...You know, I'm glad you two came looking for me. I don't think we would be... well, here if you hadn't. I'd probably still just be watching ripples and you guys would be back in the village. Strange how it all works out, huh?" Hiccup asked, breaking the silence at long last. |

Astrid seemed thoughtful for a minute. How could someone sit and watch ripples? Astrid looked at the shadows and sky, the sun seemed to have made more of it's arc across the sky, the light seeming to have faded a bit. Than again that could just be the shade of the trees. And Hiccup was right. If Astrid's suspicions and determination hadn't spurred up in the moment she'd spotted Hiccup's lazy trail, well, she'd be in the dragon arena, training. Everything she always did, the usual routine. Yet, here she was. Sitting, talking about flying, how to throw a punch, and to Hiccup. Nothing she'd ever think would happen before.
"Yeah... weird, huh." Astrid turned her thoughtful eyes to Hiccup, "I mean, I don't think I'd ever really be here. With you guys." Probably not Astrid's best choice of words, but she wasn't the kind to add, No offense, or clear up her meaning. She left it up to her 'audience' of sorts to take it personally or not. She looked around herself... and well... it was the sun's highest peak, they were by a lake, why not, atleast wade in for a bit? Sure there were eels and fish, but Astrid trusted that the boys had a hunting knife to assist if there was any trouble. "Well... it's sorta hot..." she eyes the lake, bouncing off her heels, and slipping off her shoes, and rolling up her leggings to just above the calf, wading into the water all the way.
"Wow." she wiggled her toes in the mud and cold water of the lake. It must have felt good when Hiccup had fallen in... Maybe... It had been colder earlier, and the red head had gotten soaked from head to toe. Not to mention that he'd been surprised twice by the cold impact. Astrid also was wading in calf deep, not falling flat on her back into the cold lake. Astrid turned to face the two other teens, no comfortably cool and more relaxed. The mud sucking at the bottom of her feet. "Feels kinda good actually."

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,520,true][bg=212c2f]Hiccup had been about to say more when Astrid made her way toward the water. He closed his mouth and watched, intrigued by what was going on, and just found himself staring as she waded out into the water. For a moment, Hiccup considered asking if she was serious. After he had been soaked twice before, did he really want to wade out into the water with her? You're wet already. You might as well. the voice in the back of his head told him. With a shrug that seemed to say 'Fine, I might as well. I'm not going to get any wetter.', Hiccup rose to his feet again and followed Astrid.
This time, Hiccup actually had the foresight to take off his boots. he didn't want those to get any more soaked than they already were. That was all he took off, though. Going any further, especially with Astrid present, might not have been a good idea. Without any further hesitation, the scrawny Viking began to wade out into the water. Huh... when he wasn't being surprised or stumbling in of his own accord, the water did actually feel nice.
"...Okay, you win. This does feel pretty good." Hiccup said at last. Who would have thought he would have said that after being humiliated earlier and practically soaked? Hiccup never thought he would, but there he was saying it. How ironic. |
