(ooc: non-cannon thread of all the characters as little kids, around the age of 6 or 7. Now for the new and improved reactions of little kids.)
Sinbad sat on the dirt, drawing small stick people with a stick. His eyes laying focused on the ground. He was trying to avoid town as much as he could, knowing that no one would really want him around. Due to the black eye he had recieved a few days ago he was not looking forward to meeting anymore people.
Spike sat beside him, wagging his tail happily barking every now and then at random people. He stopped and his tail started wagging again, Sinbad could hear footsteps coming and that's when Spike started barking again.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,520,true][bg=212c2f]A scrawny redheaded six year old was the one Sinbad happened to hear walking along. He was completely average in appearance beyond his scrawny build and looked a bit roughed up. Hiccup had just managed to get free of the clutches of Snotlout, a big bully as far as he was concerned, and was letting what had happened to him sink in as he walked. He'd gotten picked on for being the scrawniest and weakest again. It wasn't his fault that he wasn't good at the games Snotlout and the others liked to play. Hiccup couldn't help it if he wasn't strong! But did they listen to his attempts at explaining himself? No. Snotlout merely beat him up and told him to get lost. It was the same story from most everybody. They would tell him to get out of the way and let adults handle things, or just get out of the way in general. Despite his long, fancy name of Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III, it seemed as though no one wanted him around. Not even his own father, who treated him as though someone had skimped on the meat of his sandwich instead of treating him like a son.
Forgetting his own troubles temporarily, Hiccup looked up at the sound of Spike's barking. The scrawny redhead blinked, confusion evident in his wide emerald eyes, and looked around for where the sound was coming from. He soon spotted the pair of a boy and his dog and found himself smiling just a little. Hiccup could tell that his day was going to get better just by looking at the boy before him. He didn't look like he would tell Hiccup to get lost. Hell, Sinbad didn't know Hiccup. How could he tell a kid he didn't know to get lost? It just didn't make sense. So Hiccup approached, still maintaining his usual air of uncertainty, and looked over what Sinbad had drawn in the dirt. It did look quite nice, Hiccup had to admit. He wondered if he could join the other boy in drawing. Would it be okay? He wouldn't be told to get lost, right?
"Um... h-hey." Hiccup greeted. "That looks like fun. Do... you mind if I join?" Hiccup asked. For once he didn't want to try and maintain the sarcasm he was slowly picking up as a result of being excluded and made an outcast. He just wanted to have fun. |

Sinbad looked up at the boy, it seemed like he had had just a bad day like himself. After a moment of hesitation he nodded. "Sure kid, grab a stick." he replied with a tiny smile. With a nod at the dog who was still barking. "This is Spike," he replied.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,520,true][bg=212c2f]Hiccup smiled gratefully and gave a little nod before looking around for a stick to use. Upon finding a nice looking stick, he picked it up and rejoined Sinbad and Spike. With that he plopped down on the ground and stared at it thoughtfully while he thought of what to draw. When no ideas came for the time being, he decided to at least introduce himself. "My name's Hiccup. ...I guess you and Spike aren't having a great day, either?" Hiccup asked.
Hiccup did briefly ponder petting the little puppy, but eventually decided against it. He didn't know if Spike would appreciate being petted, anyway. He did look friendly, that much was certain, but for the moment Hiccup didn't want to take any chances. |

The boy shook his head. "Nah, i never actually have good days, but i don't let it get to me much." he replied with a shrug of his shoulders. "People in town just don't like me that much." giving Spike a rub on the head a smile formed. "But i don't really mind, Spike's the only friend i really need." Picking up his stick again, he started drawing again. It was odd to actually talk to someone besides his dog but he didn't mind. As long as if it wasn't a girl he was perfectly content.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,520,true][bg=212c2f]"I know how that feels." Hiccup remarked quietly, absentmindedly drawing a couple of swirls on the ground as he put his right hand against his cheek. "Everyone from my village is always telling me to stay out of the way... just 'cause I'm smaller an'... an' not tough." Hiccup murmured. It was actually nice to talk to someone that wasn't Gobber. Gobber listened to his problems, but he never did much to help. Having someone his age to talk to was a nice change of pace. Hiccup moved his hand away from his cheek and held it out to Spike in case the pup decided to lick it. To his surprise the pup did so, leaving his hand a bit slobbery.
"Doesn't help that mean ol' Snotlout is always picking on me 'cause I can't keep up. I'm not very fast... or strong, so I always get left behind. Even if I could keep up, I don't think they would want me around. They're always avoiding me, an' when they're not they pick on me." he'd stopped dragging his stick through the dirt and looked at the swirls he had drawn. Hiccup didn't know why he had drawn them. He just had been rambling and not really paying attention. "Snotlout says I'm not a Viking. He says I'm... useless." he murmured. |

Sinbad looked up from his drawing of a boat, and frowned at Hiccup's words. "Sounds like you and i are a lot alike. Most people mainly adults hate me. Think i'm useless...all because I'm an orphan." he replied. he sighed. "I try not to let their words get to me, they don't matter, but i am starting to feel they are right."
It wasn't just adults either, kids told him that all the time but it always ended up with him being a smart mouth and getting hit in the face

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,520,true][bg=212c2f]Admittedly, Hiccup was surprised to find out that someone else was in the same boat as him. They were both told they were useless, but for different reasons. Hiccup was just scrawny and nobody liked him. This other boy seemed to have problems of his own. "It sounds like we are alike... oh." Hiccup realized something. The other boy had introduced his puppy, but not himself. He couldn't go around not knowing his new friend's name, now could he?
"You never said your name." Hiccup informed him. "You said Spike's name, but not yours. How can I be your friend if I don't know your name?" Hiccup asked. It just didn't seem right to not know the other boy's name. |

Sinbad nodded and smiled. "Sorry about that, i don't give out my name that often. Trust issues. You seem okay though. Name's Sinbad." he replied. "Not exactly the coolest name in the world but hey, its what the people at the orphanage said that's what it was."
Why try to change things that were already true?

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,520,true][bg=212c2f]Sinbad. Now that was a cool name if Hiccup had ever heard one. Much better than the majority of the names where he was from. Especially his own. Every once in a while there was a good name like... Astrid, for example, but most of the names were strange and apparently meant to scare away enemies. "It's better than Hiccup." Hiccup said with a little shrug. "Everyone has a name like mine where I'm from. S'pposed to scare off our enemies... not like our dispe... dispo... manners don't do that." he stated. Hiccup really had never understood that tradition. Vikings were scary by nature... with the sole exception being himself. Why did they need fierce names to help with that?
"I don't think names should matter that much, really. I mean... we get ignored anyway, right?" Hiccup asked. It seemed to make sense in his mind. If they got ignored or told to get out of the way, why would their names matter? It would be more efficient to simply say 'Hey, you, get out of the way' instead of going to the trouble to remember a name. But what did Hiccup know? Maybe it was just difficult to say something like that as opposed to throwing in a name along with the statement. Vikings were hardheaded that way. |

Sinbad nodded, "I think that names only get in the way. If i could i wouldn't have one but..." he sighed. "Some day i hope to make something of myself, make the world know who i am. That i'm not just some kid." he gave a small laugh. "It sounds stupid huh, me, a lowly kid off the street trying to make something of himself. It's so unlikely."

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,520,true][bg=212c2f]"I don't think so." Hiccup told him. The scrawny child actually was beginning to look up to Sinbad. Despite the other boy's bad situation, he wanted to make something of himself. That took guts, at least in Hiccup's opinion. As for him... well, he didn't know what he could do for himself. "If you try hard enough, you can do anything you want. That's what my mommy told me." Hiccup said. He didn't know how much he believed that anymore, especially with how Snotlout treated him on a daily basis, but in the back of his mind he did somewhat believe it. It was all a matter of trying hard enough to succeed, right? Hiccup could do that. Sure he was small. Sure he couldn't keep up with the other kids. There was also the fact that he couldn't lift heavy things... at all. ...Okay, so Hiccup had quite a few obstacles to overcome.
"You can probably do better than I could. All anyone thinks I'm good at is helpin' Gobber... an' even then I'm not that good." he said quietly. All he really wanted was to be accepted. Particularly by his father. If Stoick would just look at him and tell him that he was proud, it would make Hiccup's life. As it was, though, he was typically told to get out of the way on a regular basis. "You can do anything you want. Me... well, the most I can do is try." he said. |

Sinbad's eyes focused on the ground in front of him. "Sometimes trying is all you need." he replied sadly. He needed to stop hanging out with Proteus, the kid was fun and all but way too preachy. He smiled at the red head. "I'm sure that you'll find something you're good at...it just takes time."
Spike barked happily at that, wagging his tail happily at the boys. Making his way over to Hiccup, he pawed at him, almost as if to say "pet me, love me." Sinbad looked up. "Spike, get over here!"

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,520,true][bg=212c2f]"You think so?" Hiccup asked hopefully. He looked to Spike and couldn't help but smile a little at the puppy's antics. Poor thing must have wanted attention. Hiccup obliged at last, gently rubbing the little dog's neck and head. Hiccup enjoyed doing so, now that he thought about it. Even though he'd never had a pet before, he felt like he had a good idea of just how to pet Spike. The little dog seemed to enjoy it, too.

Sinbad smiled. "You have a way with animals i guess." he replied. "Spike doesn't let anyone else pet him but myself." he said. Watching as the dog wagged his tail against the dirt. Thump. Thump. Thump. "If he slobbers on you, it's not my fault." laughing as the dog snuggled the boy's hand, wanting more attention.
------
A young girl watched the boys from a tree not far off. A small pink dress with dark pink ribbon along the waist, no shoes and in her hair were a pair of pink flowers almost forming a circlet. She had been busy talking to the birds and other tree creatures but now her attention was directed at the two boys
