Hiccup. Well, it wasn't much better than 'that stick viking savior', but it wasn't so long at least. Toothless might as well get to know the name of who decided to name him. The black majestic dragon kept moving onwards, one paw after the other in a pattern. The dragon flicked his ear-like appendage to signal Hiccup that he indeed heard the viking's name.
It wasn't too much longer until the Night Fury had found it. His new home. Now, sure it was a bit close to Berk, but if Hiccup decided he wanted to see the dragon, it wouldn't be such a hassle for either being. He had found it when again? Right. The day after his life was spared by Hiccup. The dragon looked down. A body of water to get past, then there was the land that he rested at. He opened his wings, gliding down to his home. The dragon pondered upon if Hiccup would get there, or find the other way there. Perhaps the viking would just watch the Night Fury.

Hiccup followed along silently, wondering just how much farther they would have to go, when suddenly Toothless took to the air and glided downward. To say it was a breathtaking view Hiccup was witnessing would be an understatement. The cove Toothless had led him to looked absolutely fantastic! ...Now how was he meant to get down there? Hiccup scratched his head, looking around for a sane way down that didn't involve jumping into the pool of water below, when at last he hit upon an idea. He could climb down. Maybe not the safest thing to do, but Hiccup felt confident that his luck would hold out. He could get down there no problem.
Hiccup turned around, appearing at first to maybe be turning around to head home, but he began to lower himself downward after just a moment. His feet scrabbled against the rocky cliff, looking for a foothold to hit upon, before finally finding something. Natural indents in the cliff. "Well, that's handy." Hiccup remarked quietly as he began his slow descent into the cove. Once or twice he almost lost his grip, nearly falling in the process, but somehow he managed to regain his grip on the cliff before that could happen. Once he was down, he would have to look for a safer way in and out.
At last Hiccup felt his feet touch the solid ground. With a relieved sigh, Hiccup allowed himself to let go of the cliff before taking a moment to breathe. There was no way he would be doing that every single time he wanted to check up on Toothless. It would be absurd! Hiccup was about to turn around to face Toothless again when he caught sight of a hole not far from him. He could just use that the next time he came. It would be safer that way. "Wish I'd known about that before." he murmured before finally facing his new companion again.
"I have to hand it to you, Toothless. You sure know how to pick a great place to live." Hiccup remarked. It really was. Hiccup hadn't even known about the cove before then, so he felt that the other Vikings probably wouldn't know about it either. He would just have to be careful about not being seen going that way.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,450,true][bg=99CCCC] If Toothless could actually smirk from how the viking was impressed, the Night Fury darn well would have. Somehow, the majestic black dragon felt as if the viking were trustworthy enough to simply lie down with. Perhaps lying down could get the Night Fury a different perspective on the other somehow. So, without warning, the black dragon went in a circle much like a canine would, burning in the area of where he walked until he had reached where he began.
The large beast plopped down, ear-like appendages and pale green eyes filled with content at being able to lie down. The beast momentarily forgot Hiccup. Thus, his large head turned to face the viking, ignoring the rumble in his stomach. Food. The dragon was unlikely to get up from his comfortable position to eat, however. Besides, watching the viking in his own home would be interesting. Hiccup appeared to be interested in the Night Fury's shelter, which could prove to a different experience for the beast.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,520,true][bg=212c2f]Hiccup watched as Toothless settled down, intrigued by the Night Fury's desire to burn the ground beneath him before laying down, but said nothing. Why he did that was beyond Hiccup's knowledge, but it seemed efficient. For that moment, though, Hiccup was inclined to get a better look around his companion's home. Hiccup moved forward at last, gaze fixated on the surroundings, and came to a stop in front of the body of water. It seemed like the best place to get a good look around. Spotting a bit of movement beneath the water, Hiccup found himself looking down to see what was down there. Fish, quite obviously, was what Hiccup saw.
Such a secluded little area. Hiccup doubted the other Vikings even knew about it. In fact, he was certain that Stoick was oblivious of the cove's location. Toothless would be safe, and Hiccup would be safe to come and visit the dragon whenever he pleased... so long as he was subtle about how he left the village and reentered. For the first time that day, after being focused in his own thoughts regarding the scenery, Hiccup looked the rest of himself over. He'd taken a quick look at his back, but the rest of him had gone unnoticed in the midst of everything that had happened. "Wow. I really do look roughed up." Hiccup remarked as he stared at his own reflection. Portions of his hair were out of place and sticking up in various places, there were cuts and faint bruises scattered across his body, and flecks of dried mud left over from earlier were still on a couple of places on his face. If someone doesn't notice this, I am a very lucky person. he thought.
Hiccup was grateful that Toothless didn't seem to care much about his appearance. Then again, dragons couldn't really voice their opinions on how humans appeared. That would be something if they could, but since that wasn't the case it was just Hiccup talking to himself regarding how he looked. He stooped down in front of the water briefly and dipped one hand in, no doubt frightening away a couple of fish in the process, and attempted to smooth out his hair. It didn't go quite so well, though, as in the end it just looked worse than when it started. "...Yeah, I think I'm going to leave that alone. It'll sort itself out." he murmured.
He did consider wandering off to explore the cove, but the nagging feeling in the back of his mind made him reconsider that notion. He didn't want to end up in trouble again. So instead, Hiccup moved away from the body of water and settled down not far from where Toothless was laying. He didn't opt to sit for long, as he flopped over onto his back with his arms spread out at his sides after just a moment. "This has been some day. I go from almost getting killed by a Gronckle to being saved by the Night Fury I spared. How often can you say that in an average conversation? Not very often, I would think. ...And now I'm rambling. Feel free to ignore me, Toothless. I do this a lot... just talk to myself." Hiccup stated. |

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,450,true][bg=99CCCC] Yet, the dragon didn't want to ignore Hiccup. The Night Fury's large and pale eyes watched the viking intently as he spoke to himself. Must have been a viking thing. Or a Hiccup thing. The majestic black dragon shook the thought from his head. The sun shone on the dragon's metallic body, showing off light like crystals on the large beast. His gaze was rather intent on Hiccup, unlikely to be swayed by anything else.
Alas, it had been taken from the viking when his eyes darted to the body of water. Fish. Food. Ear-like appendages went back a bit to express hunger. Toothless was hungry. The gargantuan beast watched the water, wishing that a fish could just fly right in front of him. Or much rather leap out of the water and die right then and there. Either way would be nice so the Night Fury didn't have to move a single muscle to get to the fish.
Another subject hit him again. Hiccup. What did Hiccup eat anyways? Had he eaten in a while? What were his daily eating habits? Had Toothless been able to talk, he'd probably be rambling alongside Hiccup about such questions. His ear-like appendages were raised once more with curiosity. Maybe, just maybe, Hiccup enjoyed fish too. If he got the pair a fish, Toothless would be willing to split it with him.
To indicate his hunger, the dragon made a growl sound. Not one that was threatening, more of a pathetic sound. The dragon began bobbing his head in the direction of the water, hoping that Hiccup would get the message that he was hungry and wanted the viking to get them food. If he didn't, the dragon was probably going to get fish for himself somehow. Soon and somehow he'd get some food in his empty void of a stomach.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,520,true][bg=212c2f]Toothless' pitiful little growl certainly did get Hiccup's attention. At first the young Viking thought that maybe Toothless had indeed been listening to him, and so he opened his mouth to say something else as he pushed himself back up in a somewhat upright position with his weight put on his elbows as he sat up. Then he saw the Night Fury moving his head toward the water. Hiccup did so in turn, curious of what Toothless was indicating, but then he remembered the fish he had seen vaguely flitting about in the depths. That brought Hiccup to an entirely new thought; he hadn't actually had lunch yet. With that in mind, his own stomach let out a discontented sort of growl. That was enough to indicate that he should stop sitting about and actually try to get food.
"Okay, okay, I think I get it. I imagine it is about lunchtime, anyway." Hiccup laughed. Just as he rose to his feet, though, he remembered one tiny detail that hadn't occurred to him until just then. His dagger was still all the way out in the wooded portion of the area somewhere, lost and forgotten. How was he meant to actually kill something for himself and Toothless? Figure it out yourself, brainless. came a snide remark from the back of his mind. Hiccup rolled his eyes at that inner thought, but kept moving back toward the body of water in question. It wasn't long before he had crouched down in front of it to stare into the water again.
Now how is this going to work?
Hiccup thought, and pondered, and congitated for several moments, rocking back and forth a tiny bit as he stayed crouched before the body of water. It was an interesting question. When one possessed no fishing rod and no means of killing a fish, how did one go about catching one? Whether or not Hiccup was seriously considering the question was up for debate. He definitely thought he had gotten a glimpse of something flashing briefly near the surface of the water. Some bit of movement that would have gone unnoticed if he weren't paying attention at that very moment. With no other means of going about it, Hiccup did the only thing he could think of; he threw himself at the water and went down with a great splash. How does one fish when one has no means of killing their prey?
...Very, very stupidly.
It must have been a comical display Hiccup was putting on. He rose from the water, his entire front and hair soaked from the experience, and found himself wrestling goofily with a fish that had actually been stupid enough to linger about and watch with a look of wonder as Hiccup threw himself at the water. Getting a grip on the fish was a challenge in and of itself. Several times Hiccup thought he had gotten a good grip, only to be met with the reality that he did not have such a grip and, in one brief instance, met with the slap of a fish tail across his nose. Not a pleasant experience if he did say so himself. "Hold still!" Hiccup cried in vain, attempting to hold down the fish once more. He was very fortunate that Astrid and Tuffnut weren't around this time. They would truly be laughing at the sight before them if they happened to be in the vicinity.
At length, Hiccup stopped struggling with the fish and the fish stopped struggling as well. It appeared to be on the verge of death by the time Hiccup moved back to the drier part of the supposed lake. Hiccup was thoroughly soaked and tired out from the attempt, but he had succeeded. That was what was important. Once he'd caught his breath, he held the still vaguely flopping fish in the air, by the tail, for Toothless to see and offered a doofy sort of 'I did it!' smile. |

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,450,true][bg=99CCCC] How Hiccup caught the fish was... interesting to say at least. The Night Fury's eyes were wide, his head cocked to the side as he looked at the viking. Once Hiccup finally stopped struggling with the dying fish, Toothless decided to let out a bit of a laughing noise towards the viking. He then stared at the viking for a few moments. Would he try to kill him like he tried to catch the fish?
...Probably not. He probably hadn't killed anything in his life anyways. This assurance hadn't assured Toothless enough to entirely trust Hiccup, but it did get him to get up and walk over towards the fish. Instead of walking normally, he walked more like a caterpillar. His back arched up as he walked, back lowered back down when he took a step. A continuous pattern as he reached Hiccup, head still cocked to the side.
Perhaps the dragon pictured Hiccup would suddenly do something, or the fish would jumble out of his hand. Whatever happened, Toothless wasn't so sure it'd be a positive scene. He finally reached the viking, eyes staring intently at the fish as he stopped. If only his tounge were long enough to snag the fish from where he was at.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,520,true][bg=212c2f]Hiccup couldn't really tell if he was being mocked or not, but the strange sound Toothless had made assured Hiccup of one thing; he had made himself look foolish again. He was just grateful none of the other Vikings had witnessed that display. Snotlout would never let him live that down. Not even Astrid would let him live that down. Well... what else would he have done to kill the fish, anyway? He was without a dagger and only had his bare hands to use. That had worked out quite well, obviously... if you don't mind being soaked for what felt like the millionth time in a while.
Hiccup watched with interest as Toothless inched forward, moving quite like a caterpillar and, in Hiccup's opinion, looking quite ridiculous. When Toothless came to a stop, Hiccup wondered what the dragon was expecting. He hadn't snatched up the fish like he had expected. ...Right, of course. The Night Fury probably still didn't trust him entirely. After that display, would could blame him? He'd gone about killing a fish in a most idiotic fashion. To complete the gap in between dragon and human, Hiccup extended his hand out with the fish still in it so that Toothless could snatch up the fish if he so desired. Hiccup certainly wasn't going to eat it. Especially not after he had gone about killing it in such a goofy fashion. |

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,450,true][bg=99CCCC] It was as if that fish were being handed to him on a silver platter. Toothless stared at for several moments before finally extending his forked tongue, snagging the fish out of Hiccup's hand and gulping it down, a bit humorously. The dragon closed his eyes, satisfied, before he had realized something.
Hiccup would probably want some. This caused the dragon to regurgitate out the bottom half of a fish, right onto the ground. The dragon stared at Hiccup intently, trying to signal him to eat the fish. He already went through embarrassing actions to get it. The Night Fury decided it'd be best to let him have at least some of it.
